About the Event

A trained Mental Health First Aider can start productive conversations about mental health, be a role model for how to manage mental health, promote greater understanding of the importance of mental health, and play a significant part in ending stigma and discrimination around mental health in the workplace.

Upon completing the course, you will become a certified mental health first aider and can help colleagues with a mental health issue receive the support they need to recover or manage their symptoms.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill-health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

1 in 6 adults experience symptoms of a common mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression, and 1 in 5 adults has considered taking their own life at some point. Nearly 50% of adults believe that, in their lifetime, they have had a diagnosable mental health problem.

In the UK, women are almost twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with anxiety disorders.
