MHFA 2024 Refresher

The four hour Refresher course will support MHFAiders® by:

• Renewing their skills
• Updating their knowledge of mental health supports
• Giving them the chance to practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan

Enabling MHFAiders® to refresh their skills, in the same way your physical first aiders do, is a great way to demonstrate commitment to treating mental health and physical health equally. Investing in the course will give you the confidence that you are performing their role safely and effectively.

Additionally, MHFAiders® can now receive access to exclusive events so that they can continue to develop their support for your workplace beyond the training course.

• The MHFAider Support App® provides training resources and ongoing learning opportunities so that MHFAiders® can improve their support skills on the job.
• MHFAiders® can help organise their roles with reminders and secure conversation journaling, to safely reflect on their work.
• The MHFAider Support App® works to support the MHFAiders’® own mental health – the resources within can teach critical self-care skills, with the emotion tracker function allowing them to chart their own wellbeing.
• The app provides 24/7 text support for when MHFAiders® are feeling overwhelmed or need guidance for certain situations.
• MHFAiders® have access to regular online events that provide further learning and support, allowing them to continue to perform their role confidently and effectively, long after receiving their initial training.

Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid

Learners that have completed the new Mental Health First Aid course, Adult MHFA Refresher (including support and benefits) or purchased access to the MHFAider® Support and Benefits are eligible to complete the RSPH Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid.

How often should MHFA England skills be refreshed?

We recommend that Mental Health First Aiders and attend a Refresher course every 2 to 3 years. Just like physical first aid, updating skills and knowledge allows people to perform this vital role confidently and safely.
